When one thing in their account is wrong.
Sometimes most of their letter is fair, and one thing isn't: a date, an amount, something you're said to have said. Leaving it uncorrected lets it stand. Correcting it calmly, in writing, puts your version on the record next to theirs.
Step by step
- Quote the thing that's wrong, exactly as they wrote it.
- Say what your record shows instead, with the date and the item that shows it.
- Stop there. One correction per letter reads clearly. A list of grievances doesn't.
What to keep
Their letter, your correction, the date it went, and the entry it points to.
The letter for this
“Correct one thing” names the point and the entry, and leaves the rest to you.
