How to answer with the record.
The strongest answer to a claim is usually the plainest one. Take what they've said, point by point, and put next to each point what your record shows. No more, and no less.
Step by step
- Break their letter into points. Number them. One claim per point.
- For each point, find the entries in your record that cover it: the dates, photos, messages and files.
- Write what the record shows, not what you think of it. “On March 3 the work was photographed finished” — not “they’re lying.”
- Leave a point alone if your record says nothing about it. Don't fill the gap with guesses.
- Keep your own position for the end. What you want is yours to decide, and yours to write.
The letter for this
“Answer with the record” fills in the facts from your entries and leaves the ask blank. Nothing is sent for you.
