Terms of Service

This document was last updated May 30, 2026. We recommend reviewing it periodically.

1 · What buildmyevidence is

buildmyevidence is a personal documentation tool. You use it to record events, conversations, photos, and correspondence related to disputes or situations in your life.

buildmyevidence is a tool of record only. It is not a law firm, not a legal service, and does not provide legal, medical, or professional advice. The information you enter is your own — we store it, organize it, and help you export it. We do not evaluate, interpret, or act on it.

If you need legal advice, consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction.

2 · Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

3 · Your data belongs to you

Everything you enter into buildmyevidence — journal entries, photos, correspondence, contacts — belongs to you. We do not claim ownership of your content.

You can export your data at any time using the Download Case Backup feature in Settings. You can delete individual items or entire cases at any time.

4 · How we use your data

We use your data only to provide the service — storing it, displaying it, generating PDF reports from it, and processing inbound emails you forward to your case address.

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties except as necessary to operate the service (see our Privacy Policy for details on service providers).

We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not use your data for advertising.

5 · Payments

buildmyevidence is not open for purchase yet. Pricing announced at launch, and these terms will be updated with the payment terms before any charge is possible.

When payments do open, they will be processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your credit card details.

6 · How long we keep your account

6.1 The only thing that counts is whether you open it

Your account stays as long as you use it, and using it means opening it. Sign in and look — that's the whole test. You don't have to add anything, buy anything, or reply to anything.

Opening your account puts the clock back to zero. One click, any time.

6.2 What happens if nobody opens it

If an account goes unopened, this is the order things happen in.

12 months
The account is marked cold. Cold restricts nothing — every case is still there, still readable, still exportable in full. It is a marker and a warning, not a limit.
18 months
We write to the email address on the account, saying what will happen and the date it will happen on.
21 months
We write again.
23 months
We write a third time.
24 months
The account is deleted.

Opening the account at any point in that list ends it, and the clock starts again from zero.

6.3 What deleted means

It means deleted. The records, and the files themselves in storage. Not hidden, not marked as gone, not sitting in a copy we could go back to.

Once it has happened we cannot undo it, and neither can you. That is the point of it.

Deleting a single case works the same way, and immediately. Section 7 of the Privacy page sets out exactly what happens.

6.4 Two things stop a deletion

A paid case in the account stops it permanently. An account holding a paid case is never deleted for inactivity — and that covers every free case sitting in the same account.

A notice that doesn't arrive stops it too. If one of our emails bounces, the clock stops and nothing is deleted. The only reason it is fair to delete an account is that we told you first. If the notice went to an address that no longer works, we didn't tell you — so we don't delete.

6.5 We never delete anything because you haven't paid

Not paying is not a reason to delete anything, ever. A case you have never paid to open stays exactly where it is, for as long as you keep opening your account. Inactivity is the only thing that ends an account.

6.6 Taking everything out is free, always

You can export everything at any time and it costs nothing. That holds whether or not anything in the account has been paid for, whether the account is cold, and whether notices have already gone out. It is never held back, never slowed down, and never put behind a payment.

What comes out: the files exactly as they reached us; the record itself; and the fingerprints recorded for each file.

7 · What you agree not to do

You agree not to use buildmyevidence to:

  • Store content that is illegal in your jurisdiction
  • Impersonate another person
  • Attempt to access another user's data
  • Use automated tools to scrape or extract data from the service
  • Interfere with the operation of the service

8 · Limitation of liability

buildmyevidence is provided "as is." We make every effort to keep your data safe and the service available, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or that data will never be lost.

We are not responsible for decisions you make based on the records you keep in buildmyevidence. We are not responsible for the outcome of any dispute, legal proceeding, or complaint.

Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid for the service in the 12 months preceding any claim.

9 · Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by email or through the app. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
